SQL Server 2012 Extended Events - Lightning sand, Flame spurts & R.O.U.S.’s

As a lone DBA in the scary world of the SQL Server 2012 Fire Swamp, you may be wary of the multiple threats of Lightning sand, Flame spurts & Rodents of Unusual Size. In this session, come and learn how to map your way through these threats using the new and improved DMV's and Extended Events that are found in SQL Server 2012. <br> <br> In this session, you will learn about a few of the new DMV's available in SQL 2012. You will also learn about the improved XEvents interfaces and how to use XEvents to monitor your server and track issues in a similar manner to how SQL Profiler is used. <br> <br> Prerequisites: <br> The target of this session is production SQL Server DBA’s or developers who have average T-SQL skills already. This session assumes that you have a basic understanding of SQL Server fundamentals. For example, you should be familiar with the SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) interface and associated toolbox items before attending this session.<br> <br> Goals: <br> - Understanding of the new DMV's available in SQL server 2012 <br> - Knowledge of how XEvents are able to be used to monitor SQL Server <br> - Knowledge of the improvements that SQL Server 2012 has brought to XEvents (New XEvents UI, Tools, etc.) <br>

About Gareth:
Gareth Swanepoel is a sysadmin-turned-SQL Server DBA. He has been working in the IT industry doing support and administration for over 25 years. He enjoys solving the complex problems that customers encounter when performance tuning SQL Server or when deploying SQL Server in large data warehouse environments. He is originally from South Africa and is currently a Dedicated Support Engineer (PFE) with Microsoft. He is a passionate member of the SQL Server community and is an accomplished author and speaker having presented at various user groups, SQL Saturdays, the PASS Summit and other technical conferences.
