Getting Started with SSAS Tabular Cubes

Jennifer Salvo , Business Intelligence Developer Trek Bicycles

The 2012 release of SQL Server Analysis Services introduced the Business Intelligence Semantic Model (BISM) With the introduction of the BI Semantic Model, we now have two options when creating cubes: Multidimensional and Tabular. In this session, we'll discuss the features and benefits of the Tabular Model and draw comparisons to the Multidimensional Model. We'll also review scenarios when a Tabular cube may be a better choice than Multidimensional. The presentation will conclude with a demo of basic Tabular cube functionality such as creating a new Tabular cube project; adding data; modifying columns; creating relationships, calculated columns, measures and hierarchies. We will also discuss deployment, processing and analyzing data via Excel.
